I was sick this past weekend (just a headcold) so I got a LOT of sleep and that makes all the difference in the world. Everyone is easier to love when I'm not sleep deprived. Kindness is at my fingertips when I've gotten 8 hours. Yeah, headcold! Yeah, Nyquil. I'm quite sure I slept right through some of her usual middle of the night shenanigans...and we both survived.
You get warm cockles, and you get warm cockles, and you get warm cockles (in my best Oprah voice). The best part of aging, for me, is the softening of my heart, the thickening of my skin (most days). Thanks for reading.
It's just us. My father was an only. I'm an only. And Mom only had one brother, who's passed. Of his two kids, my cousins, we're only in touch with one who lives in Arizona while we're in NY, a little over 2K miles. So, just us. But there are other "family" members, family of love rather than blood who live closer. We share the memories of each other's parents and childhoods, growing up two doors from each other our mothers were best friends. I'm generally called Aunt Cousin Jodi by that crew, and Mom is always Aunt Elayne, no matter which generation.
